Bethel Church was established as a pioneer church to serve the Indian community predominantly in South Yorkshire. In 2019, Bethel Church was launched as vision from the Lord to respond to the needs of the community as the South Indian diaspora rapidly increased. The church was named 'Bethel' which has the Hebrew meaning of 'House of God' which originates from the scripture Genesis 28:17-19.
We believe we are called to be a house of prayer; where one can find comfort, peace and belonging. In the light of the COVID19 pandemic, our services were conducted via the Zoom Platform for almost 18 months. Although those days were challenging, the Church witnessed exceptional growth. Though we began few, God has been faithful over the years in growing the congregation. We continue to experience and witness the fulfillment of His promises at every given opportunity.
Though there are churches in neighboring areas who identify with our beliefs and aspects of our faith, the members of our congregation are primarily composed of families who almost all originate from Kerala, which is a state in Southern India. The language spoken in Kerala is Malayalam - the mother tongue of those who originate from Kerala.
Our services at Bethel Church are of a bilingual model where we use both Malayalam and English as a medium to communicate and worship.
We believe taking this approach in the short run provides grounding for cultural assimilation, as we gently embrace growth and development onto being a multi-ethnic community.
The Vision and commitment of Assemblies of God UK is to:
“Give every man, woman and child the opportunity of understanding the
gospel and to provide a church where they can grow in ministry for the glory of God.”
